Integrating Local News In Classroom Studies

Posted on: 29 December 2020

News changes consistently and what is going on in a particular region could have an impact on the citizens who live there and inspire them to get involved, make a change, or learn more about a particular topic. If you are seeking a way to enrich your student's studies and get them more in tune with what is occurring in their society, integrate local news stories with weekly classroom studies.

Watch, Record, And Categorize

If you already have a local news station that you rely upon for daily briefings, use it throughout this project. You can also add a couple of other local stations into your viewing options, to provide you with a viable way to compare news stories that you plan on sharing with your pupils.

During each viewing session, record the broadcast. This will allow you to review each segment. During a review, you may acquire additional information that you did not notice when you viewed the news broadcast live and you can categorize the news stories, deciding which ones you would like to share with your students and which ones you would prefer not to.

The news information that you decide to share can be relevant to a particular chapter that your students are currently studying or can pertain to an act of humanity or an environmental cause, which may inspire your students.

Plan And Share

Tell your students that you are going to introduce some local news themes into their classroom studies. The weather, current nationwide events, and stories about what is occurring within the region that your students live in can be shown during some of the classes that you teach.

During each viewing session, ask your pupils to pay attention and to take notes about key points that are introduced. After the viewing session, hold a discussion about the news that was viewed. Ask probing questions that will get your students thinking about various outcomes for a particular story or that may help them relate to what is being done for a specific cause.

To integrate the news stories even further, assign projects that are based upon the topics that were shown. Write down a list of topics that relate to a particular viewing session and allow groups of students to select one of the papers. Suggest that the students present reports, perform a debate, or prepare a visual aid that coincides with the news story that was selected.

Location Still Matters Even In The Digital World

Welcome to my website. I'm Joe Spears. A common adage for business is that it is all about location, location, location. Where you are able to open your storefront plays a large role in the success of your business. The same is true in the online world. If you want your real estate to sell, you need to understand where your properties need to be listed. I know this because I have purchased a much larger number of properties than your average Joe. Because of my interest in real estate, I have decided to create a blog that focuses on the marketing of real estate both online and offline.
